Friendly Fires at the 9:30 Club

Hailing from St. Albans in Hertfordshire, England, Friendly Fires first began making a name for themselves in the UK music scene starting in 2006, releasing a number of EPs and singles of infectiously slick synth pop and dance-rock tunes. Eventually producing a self-titled, full-length album as its proper debut, the English trio's success landed it a nomination for the Mercury Music prize in 2009. Recently completing a sophomore follow-up, "Pala" (taking its name from the Aldous Huxley novel "Island," about the fall of a utopian paradise), Friendly Fires are bringing plenty more of ravelike pop beats with a visit to the states. For those thinking about visiting the nation's capital this Memorial Day weekend, Friendly Fires are scheduled to perform at the 9:30 Club on Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. $18. 202-265-0930.
