The French have been around long enough to be associated with all kinds of fun historical and cultural references big and small — musketeers, Bastille storming and jokes aplenty pertaining to white flags. Lumped with all of this is the art of the motion picture. The birthplace of cinema, France loves film so much that the industry is afforded protection under the government, with theaters regularly granting flat-rate passes to moviegoers. Celebrating all things French and film, the Byrd Theatre plays host to the annual French Film Festival from March 24-27. $15-$115. 827-3456. http://www.frenchfilmfestival.us
