Fortress Around Her Art

Maybe the words "hunter-gatherer" conjure up a barefoot, wild-haired woman picking berries and a loin-clothed man shooting deer with a bow and arrow, but Katherine DeGaetani's show "Hunter, Gatherer: New Paintings" does not cater to this archetype. A graduate of the painting and printmaking department at Virginia Commonwealth University, DeGaetani draws from her memories of childhood forts to create visual interpretations of inside and out through color, layer and form. "Hunter, Gatherer" runs through June 30 at Main Art Gallery, 1537 W. Main St. 355-6151 or visit www.mainartsupply.com.
