Former VCU Chief Still Hospitalized

As trial on sex charges looms, former VCU police chief remains in hospital.

Former Virginia Commonwealth University Police Chief Willie Fuller remains at VCU Medical Center after suffering from a diabetes-related medical emergency in early June. His medical condition likely will result in a delay of his July 8 trial on charges of soliciting sex with a minor.

“His status is really not changed,” Fuller's attorney, Arnold Henderson, told Style last week. “He is not doing well. From a nonmedical person who has observed him, it is extremely serious.”

Malorie Janis, a public relations specialist for the university, says Fuller is still being cared for at the medical center but couldn't release details about his condition.

Fuller, 50, is a diabetic, and was found by a neighbor in a parking lot near his apartment on Meadowfield Court in Henrico County.

Henderson declined to comment on how he would handle the case if Fuller's condition didn't improve.

Fuller was arrested Jan. 28 as part of an Internet sting, in which Chesterfield detectives posing as minors attempted to lure sexual predators. Fuller is charged with soliciting sex with a 14-year-old girl.

In February, Style learned of a previous investigation that VCU had conducted of Fuller after internal complaints. Style also uncovered a sexually explicit electronic correspondence between Fuller and a girl who said she was 17.
