Artspace gallery presents the works of seven first-year master of fine arts candidates in Virginia Commonwealth University’s craft and material studies program with “FO/MENT,” featuring works by Abram Deslauriers, Erika Diamond, Marisa Finos, Brian Fleetwood, Julie Malen, Jared Smith and Andrea Vail. Among the works, Deslauriers focuses on glass while Fleetwood creates jewelry with abstract components of biological structures. Diamond’s work has been described as forms recalling their contents or recording an action and Vail manipulates found textiles and reclaimed objects, looking at both the mundane and extraordinary characteristics. “Fo/ment” opens with an artist’s reception at Artspace on Friday, April 26, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The exhibit continues through May 19. artspacegallery.org.
