Any musician or extra in the Lincoln film will tell you that Richmond’s home to some of the finest facial hair around. With that in mind, the Follicles of the James ’Stache and Beard League offers the first Mid-Atlantic Beard & ’Stache Competition, a contest showcasing the best beards in Richmond. There are 10 categories for both men and women, including mustache, partial beard and full beard — both natural and styled — and a best in show. Judges include Gwar lead singer Dave Brockie, 103.7 The River’s Melissa Chase, wrestling referee Dave Hebner, reigning ladies creative champion Ashley Brown and a special surprise panelist. Proceeds go to the Central Virginia Food Bank. Things are definitely going to get hairy when the Mid-Atlantic Beard and ’Stache Competition happens Saturday, March 3, at Strange Matter. $5 to attend. $10 to compete. beardleague.org.
