Flogging Molly at the National

Maybe it's the whole Celtic thing, maybe it's the whole punk thing, maybe it's both together, but every Flogging Molly song is an anthem, a fight song or a lament. Each has pathos as a chaser to a shot of whiskey. It's the Irish thing, probably. But also the many moving parts of a band scrambling banjo, fiddle and accordion into an already-volatile mix of acoustic and electric guitars. The result is vibrant; the band is, and this can't be said for all bands, best seen live. Flogging Molly plays the National with the Aggrolites and Dub Trio on Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. $23.50. 612-1900 or www.thenationalva.com.
