Avant-jazz collective Fight the Big Bull features many of Richmond’s prominent instrumentalists, including Bryan Hooten, Matt White and Reggie Pace. When this ensemble gets together, the resulting sounds take over the room and everyone pays attention. After last year’s release of “I Mean to Live Here Still,” a collaboration with San Francisco-based singer and songwriter David Karsten Daniels, the world outside River City finally began taking notice, which led to the group’s mentions in numerous national media outlets, including spots on NPR’s top five genre-defying records of 2010 roundup and NPR’s top 10 jazz records of 2010 list. Hometown fave Fight the Big Bull performs at Balliceaux on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 10 p.m. Free. 355-3008.
