Since establishing herself alongside fellow contestant Jennifer Hudson during the 2004 season of “American Idol,” singer Fantasia Barrino has come through the proverbial talent-searching tunnel better than when she entered it, establishing a boldness in the R&B genre that holds little doubt of her multioctave talent. Featuring a voice that tethers Macy Gray's weathered rasp with the dramatic bellows of Mary J. Blige, Fantasia's R&B leanings on classic soul consistently draw comparisons to the days of Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. With her upcoming third album entitled “Back to Me” scheduled for release at the end of the month, Fantasia is set to perform at this week's Fridays at Sunset concert July 23 at 6 p.m. $30-$55.
