Moved into action by murder of William E. Crutchfield, 34, in Mosby Court last month, Jamil Dee Jasey wanted to do something positive to address the continuing problem of violence in Richmond. With help from the community organization Kinfolks and Richmond City Council President Michelle R. Mosby, the promoter and co-creator of Lyricist Lab Family organized Unity in the Community Weekend. The two-day showcase of poetry, music and discussions begins Friday, Nov. 13, from 8-11 p.m., with an open-mic night hosted by Clovia Grooms Lawrence from iPower 92.1. Then on Saturday, Nov. 14, Richmond musicians Zhé Aqueen, Bryant Munford and Chinedu Shabazz play a free outdoor concert in Mosby Court at the triangle at Red and Coalter streets from 3-6 p.m. For information call 252-0334.
