With Sun Ra’s Arkestra headed to the Richmond Folk Fest in less than a month, Richmond is soon to be flush with interplanetary jazz sounds. In the meantime, Balliceaux is hosting a show from Fredericksburg’s loose and breezy SkiffleLoungeSound on Thursday, Sept. 24. The band features Harry Wilson, the spacey vibraphonist who played with Sun Ra and his Arkestra in the late 1970s. Here, his mallets are dancing around more structured, acoustic, old-time Americana and jazz paired with Larry Hinkle on ukulele, John Buck on bass and John Hale on washboard and suitcase. But the result is just as groovy and entertaining. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show is $5. balliceauxrva.com.
