Few people cheerlead local music-makers more than Andrew Cothern. For the last five years, the Richmond writer and former Style calendar editor has vigorously waved his pom-poms for the city’s least appreciated and most regulated creative class on his music blog RVA Playlist. Cothern celebrates his half-decade of culture pushing Thursday, June 4, with a local band showcase at the Broadberry. The birthday party includes performances by the folk in-a-land-without-fences sound of Jonathan Vassar and the Badlands, the symphonic pop rocks of Goldrush, and the no-holds, fear-of-a-brass-planet melodies of the No BS Brass band. Up-and-comers Big Mama Shakes will be providing some pre-show entertainment that also includes guest appearances, a raffle and birthday cake. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $5-$10. thebroadberry.com.
