Swamp Fest is the perfect name for a summer music festival in Richmond. Like the merciless August sun, the three-day showcase of local, regional and national eardrum agitators at the 25 Watt and Strange Matter will drain you of vital fluids. The bombardments come hard and fast: Punishments will be doled out by Texan shriekers Amygdala, Baltimore’s the Heads Are Zeros and 804 malcontents This Land Is Now Dead, Truman, Fetish Gear, and Hash Cult to name but a few. Despite the varying system of assaults, all the bands share a contumacious need to thin the herd with attitude and volume. Put it this way: If any of these bands played one of the area’s upscale malls, the police would be called within seconds.
