The local world-music alchemists of Rattlemouth are a folk festival of inspirations. Creating sounds as varied as Lebanese trance music and Ethiopian jazz, the quartet bobs-and-weaves its way through international grooves to create a dance-floor sound uniquely its own.
Since the departure of longtime guitarist George Lowe, Rattlemouth has transformed from its once tightly wound adherence to the tradition to a more free-formed appraisal of the moment. The looser approach humanizes the group’s sometimes dizzying cross-cultural history lessons and original compositions, allowing it to be felt first with body instead of the mind. It’s still a heady experience, but this latest incarnation of the group is the most user-friendly in Rattlemouth’s 26-year history.
It brings its funky globalizations to Garden Grove Brewing Co. on Friday, July 15. The show runs from 8-10:30 p.m. Free. gardengrovebrewing.com.
