Sept. 12

I never thought I’d live to see the day that same-sex marriage would be legal. Times are a-changing, but June’s Supreme Court ruling making gay marriage legal in all 50 states doesn’t mean homophobia is a thing of the past. On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Virginia LGBT community and those committed to securing equal rights for all citizens will gather for PrideFest 2015: Seasons of Love on Brown’s Island. The annual family-friendly celebration features a bevy of equality minded artisan, food, retail and beauty vendors as well as performances by the chart-topping dance pop duo Dumblonde and “American Idol” finalist Rayvon Owen, alongside hometown favorites Red Light Romeo, Uno Mas, Voodoo Dolls, Michelle Livigne and the Hi-Steps. Sponsored by Virginia Pride, the free festivities run noon to 8. vapride.org.

CORRECTION: This pick originally said Red Light Rodeo, the band playing is Red Light Romeo. Entirely different. And the headliner is spelled Dumblonde, not Dumbblonde. Style regrets the errors.
