Hurricane Joaquin rained on a lot of local parades. The Second Street Festival and Hogtober were canceled because of inhospitable weather conditions generated by the storm. Originally scheduled during that rain-filled weekend, Party on the Avenues, the beloved annual showcase and celebration of Richmond’s West End, is hoping for the fair weather blessing of mother nature when the rescheduled event takes place this Sunday, Oct. 18, on Libbie Avenue between Patterson and Guthrie. Featuring a wide assortment of fun-filled festivities, there will be craft beer, wine, food, family-friendly diversions and live, party-enhancing entertainment by the Tredegar Band, Redneck Pool Party and En’Novation. The block party takes to the streets from noon-6 p.m. Admission, like the best things in life, is free. 307-6533. partyontheavenues.com
