I remember when it was hard to find out about new music. Today the hardest part is trying to weed through it. Helping you navigate the horde of local melody-makers is the Bad Grrrl Records showcase at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery on Saturday, July 8. Headed by musician Tim Falen, the tireless Richmond independent cassette label has put together a buffet of the city’s burgeoning musical talents for your sampling pleasure. On the bill are up-and coming, rock-rooted acts from Richmond: Bad Magic, Headless Mantis, Atta Girl, the Wimps and Cavum. From the stripped-down basics of duo Bad Magic to the sweetly serene, indie pop of Atta Girl, all the groups share a similar do-it-yourself aesthetic, but differ wildly in execution. The free daytime survey of the melodic here and now runs 3-9 p.m. Bad Grrrl Records also will have a bunch of its releases from other bands, so bring a little extra spending cash. hardywood.com.
