Elf Power at Strange Matter

Wednesday, Sept. 22

One of the longer-lasting byproducts to come out of the '90s musical collective known as Elephant 6 (whose similarly minded enterprises and pet projects created the likes of Neutral Milk Hotel, Apples in Stereo and Of Montreal), Elf Power has nevertheless been passed off at times by critics as some kind of unfortunate sibling forever trapped behind the success of so many creative brothers and sisters. Led by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andrew Rieger and Laura Carter, this Athens, Ga.-based band is doing something right given its longevity, mixing fuzzy production texture tricks with a melodic take on pop rock and folk. On tour behind the recent release of its latest self-titled effort, Elf Power is scheduled to perform at Strange Matter on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 10 p.m.
