Developer Douses Former Porn Shop With Hot Sauce

It once was a gas station. Then it became a porn shop. And in a span of a few months the Boulevard’s most conspicuous little store will find new life as a taco stand.

Restaurateurs Randy O’Dell and Patrick Stamper, who just sold their ownership in Mezzanine, have leased the former Tri-Angle Book Store. Their plan is to convert the former Texaco station into an affordable, Calexican-style eatery.

“We just really liked the footprint of the place,” O’Dell says, “and the idea of taking over an old gas station and doing something cool with it.”

The pair, who also own Bellytimber Tavern in the Fan, will lease the 1,300-square-foot property from Lions Paw Development. Owner Charlie Diradour purchased the building in September, having long eyed the space as redevelopment opportunity.

The specifics of the menu are being mulled over. But there’s sure to be a dish or two named in homage of the property’s bawdy past, O’Dell says.

Workers will begin gutting the building around the first of the year, with an eye toward opening the doors sometime in May.
