Detention Center for Illegal Aliens Is Smart for Virginia

Farmville Town Manager Gerald J. Spates and all Richmond financial investors behind the ICA-Farmville facility featured in Peter Galuszka's “The Alien Depot” (Cover Story, Sept. 2) should be respectfully thanked, righteously commended and gloriously praised!

Richmond City unemployment statistics (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics) list unemployment for June in Richmond City at 10.9 percent and Richmond County at 7.3 percent. The U.S. Bureau of Labor ranks the number of unemployed in the state for July at 6.9 percent. Thousands of Virginians who are legal, American citizens are in need of work!

In a free country of definitive, but much neglected laws where two very distinctly different presidential administrations have absolutely failed to stop illegals from further damaging the lives, work force, medical and welfare state of our nation and state's economy, town officials in Farmville and its Richmond financiers are finally showing what humble, small steps can achieve toward an enormously huge bite against illegal immigration. Well done!
