Despite his somewhat disconcerting stage name, singer and songwriter John McCauley has hardly spent his existence dependent on the likes of others. Spending his days in high school prolifically writing and recording his own material, McCauley has spent the past several years developing a live-in approach to his lo-fi mix of folk, blues and country. Featuring a scrappy vocal yowl, honed as a result of playing early gigs without amplification, McCauley's Americana grit is all his own. Performing selections from his recently released third album, “The Black Dirt Sessions,” Deer Tick is scheduled to perform at Brown's Island on Friday, June 18, at 6 p.m. 788-6466.
