David Cook at the National

It will be interesting to find out how latest “American Idol” graduates Adam Lambert and Kris Allen will fare when they release their respective debuts next month. The sales figures are hardly in doubt; it's the quality that'll be worth paying attention to. It's even more interesting to consider how far the two contestants would have gotten in the competition if David Cook hadn't paved the way a year earlier with his rock-based appeal. Delivering plenty of approachable grunge-pop with his own self-titled debut last year, a record that included contributions from Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, Kevin Griffin of Better Than Ezra and Chris Cornell, Cook is scheduled to perform at the National on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. $25. 612-1900.— Mike Hilleary
