Dark Star Shines on The National (Rescheduled)

It may seem odd that the inaugural performance at Richmond's newest mid-size venue, The National, is coming from a Grateful Dead tribute band, the Dark Star Orchestra. Yet DSO have proven themselves more than a cover band, accruing a dedicated fan base, regularly selling out shows and, as they put it, "re-creating the Grateful Dead experience." Adding a former member of The Grateful Dead, Rob Barraco, should help the band resurrect the vibe and fill the resurrected National Theater. A DSO performance re-creates a specific Grateful Dead show in its entirety, emphasizing the style of the band at that time, who did what solo and how completely far-out Jerry was. This show has been rescheduled for Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. $20. (757) 622-9877 or visit www.thenationalva.com.
