The holidays are here, my friends, and it might be time for you to learn a thing or two — such as cooking, perhaps? Here’s a selection of classes that’ll help put the jingle back into your bells. You might even impress the people you love — although some of those people will never be happy.

If the last time you made a gingerbread house was in elementary school, then you need to sharpen your skills. The best part, now that you’re all grown up, is that you get to take something home that might actually look like a festive holiday house. Gingerbread House Decorating, Saturday, Nov. 28, noon, $45. Southern Season, 2250 Staples Mill Road,

Stony Point’s Sur la Table has teamed with Bon Appétit Magazine to teach you some pretty spectacular-sounding dishes from its pages. You’ll learn how to make things as varied as roasted chestnuts with black pepper honey and spicy cauliflower latkes with za’atar aioli. Holiday Entertaining with Bon Appétit Magazine, Nov. 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $69. Sur la Table, 9200 Stony Point Parkway,

It’s a traditional — but mini — feast of the seven fishes, where you can learn all about bacala alla Vesuviana, oysters with capers and Italian tuna sushi. Italian Christmas Feast of the Seven Fishes, Tuesday, Dec. 1, 6 p.m., $45. Southern Season, 2250 Staples Mill Road,

Local chef Mike Ledesma wants to make things easy for you. He’ll teach you streamlined recipes for such dishes as potato leek soup, beef tenderloin with horseradish cream sauce and crème brûlée and more. Holiday Party Made Easy, Monday, Dec. 7, 6 p.m., $45. Southern Season, 2250 Staples Mill Road,

Give those teenagers, ages 11-18, something to do while you figure out which gift cards to buy them this year. They ought to know how to make their own holiday cookies, thank you very much. Do-It-Yourself Cookie Making, Thursday, Dec. 10, 3 p.m. Free. Richmond Public Library, Main Branch, 101 E. Franklin St. Registration is required by calling 646-7223.

Family members in town? You can stun them with an elaborate brunch that shows off your new skills, which will include how to make gingerbread waffles with bourbon-caramel sauce and your own homemade sausage. Delicious Holiday Brunch, Dec. 12, 1-3 p.m., $69. Sur la Table, 9200 Stony Point Parkway,

Cookbook author, food writer and culinary instructor Sheri Castle will be on hand to demonstrate how to whip up a few fancy hors d’oeuvres, such as sweet potato and sausage bites and goat-cheese cheesecakes with pepper jelly for your holiday party. Holiday Hors D’oeuvres, Holiday Appetizers, Saturday, Dec. 12, 2 p.m. $45. Southern Season, 2250 Staples Mill Road,

Kids can’t have all the fun. You can get up to your elbows in sugar learning how to mix colors and decorate sugar cookies with royal-icing designs that Martha Stewart would envy. Cookie Decorating Workshop, Dec. 13, 2-4 p.m., $69. Sur la Table, 9200 Stony Point Parkway,

Did you miss your chance to construct a gingerbread mansion? The Richmond Public Library has your back. It’s offering one more chance, and children older than 3 are welcome too. Gingerbread House Making, Friday, Dec. 11, 3-5 p.m. Free. Richmond Public Library, Main Branch, 101 E. Franklin St. Registration is required by calling 646-7223.

You don’t have to let the cookie swap pass you by this year. Upgrade the treats and make cookies, bars and chocolates to have on hand for the inevitable unexpected guests. Annual Holiday Bake and Take, Mise en Place, Thursday, Dec. 17, 6:30-9 p.m. $60.

Don’t see a class on the list that fits into your schedule of holiday insanity? You can always arrange your own with chef and cooking instructor Tammy Brawley of the Green Kitchen. Call 687-7099 for details.
