Cristal is the definition of what it means to be a difficult listen. The trio of Richmond sound manipulators Bobby Donne of La Bradford and Breadwinner, Greg Darden and Jimmy Anthony make atonal noise. It’s a room-clearing sound to most, but lurking within the static is a sonic tranquility based on in-the-moment reaction to stimulus that’s purposely devoid of melody and rhythm. Cristal’s three-year hiatus from chafing the eardrums of Richmond audiences ends Thursday, Aug. 21, when it brings its meditative deconstructions to the Ghostprint Gallery. You’ll also hear the existential hip-hopped dub experiments of ENE — whose new album, “Paper Tigers,” has just been released as a free download on Bandcamp — and the piercing assaults of Broadcastatic. Doors open at 8 p.m. Free. ghostprintgallery.com.
