Cory Smoot, also known as Flattus Maximus from Gwar, died in November 2011. The loss was felt by not only the metal heads but also much of Richmond. A few of his musician friends paid homage to Smoot with a memorial show celebrating his life and releasing his album to fans. It was such a popular night the only thing to do was to continue honoring Smoot with a kick-ass show every year. Hear the metal and rock antics of bands such as Rawg (Gwar unmasked), Smoot’s band Mensrea, U.S. Brass, Potty Mouth, Apocalypse Dudes and Suppression. Proceeds go to the Smoot Family Fund. The second annual Cory Smoot Experiment Show bangs heads at the Canal Club on Friday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. $12. thecanalclub.com.
