With the summertime warmth of her breakthrough single, “Put Your Records On,” UK songstress Corinne Bailey Rae found herself rising quickly among the established names of the neo-soul genre. While her 2006 self-titled debut would go on to earn three Grammy nominations and top at the No. 4 slot on the Billboard 200, Rae endured a massive personal blow in 2008 with the death of her husband. Conciliating her grief and recovery is “The Sea,” a follow-up that takes the tender-voiced beauty to new places exploring love's past and present tense. Corinne Bailey Rae performs at Kanawha Plaza on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. $30.
