COMMENTS: "Profiles in Outrage"

Re: "Profiles in Outrage,": I live in Jackson Ward. Every time I walk around Jackson Ward I profile people for my own safety. First I look at their gender. Then I look at the color of their skin. If they're a black male and young and don't look like a student then I cross the street. … Maybe this is too honest for you. I have lived here for years and that is what I know. … You can call me racist, it doesn't matter to me. Statistically I'm just trying not to get robbed or killed.

Do you walk away from white people at marathons too? … Do you change flights if Middle Easterners are on your plane? … Do you still put your money in the stock market even though you know greedy white men are itching to defraud you? I didn't think so. That's because bad things happen everywhere. To good people and bad people. And crimes are perpetrated by all colors of people in all walks of life. Risk assessments and stereotypes are just euphemisms so that you can be racist without actually thinking you're racist.
