Though originating from Cape Town, South Africa, rock trio Civil Twilight doesn't draw much musical influence from the continent's indigenous population, rather finding much closer stylistic parallels with the emoting anthem ensembles of Europe's Radiohead, Muse and U2. Bringing plenty of building hooks on both guitar and piano, sprawling effects, and reaching duration lengths to songs that aim for nothing less than epic, Civil Twilight is a talent in need of an arena. Working its way to such an end, performing tunes off its self-titled debut released last year, Civil Twilight is scheduled to play the Canal Club on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. $12.
