ChinaFest takes over Richmond.

After watching the Olympics last year, it's pretty clear that China's just biding its time before it assumes the role as the world's Supreme Commander of Spectacle. Did you see its synchronized diving team? Sheesh. The precision! The artistry! Of course, most of us didn't get to see that cultural supernova up close. But now we shall have our chance, with a spectacle brought right to our city. The Rose Group for Cultural Understanding, the University of Richmond, the Byrd Theatre and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will hold the fourth annual ChinaFest, a festival of guest speakers, movie screenings (including “Up the Yangtze,” pictured) and interactive exhibits Feb. 19-22. All events, except for movie tickets, are free. For program information check Style's calendar or visit www.therosegroup.org. — Mike Hilleary
