UPDATE: Child Shot in East End 

The 3-year-old boy who was shot in the city’s East End this afternoon is in critical but stable condition.

Richmond police have also made two arrests in connection with the shooting, which occurred inside a house in the 1500 block of 20th Street sometime around 3 p.m.

Police arrested the boy's father, Antwoine Mealey, 21, of the 1500 block of North 20th Street, who was charged with felony child neglect resulting in injury.

The man charged with obstruction of justice shortly after police arrived on the scene is Tyrell Mealey, 19, of the 1500 block of North 20th Street. Mealey is the boy's uncle.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., police were contacted by staff at VCU Medical Center after the child was brought in for treatment of a single gunshot wound. After sugery this evening, he's now listed in critical but stable condition.

Neighbors say the child was taken to the hospital by his grandmother. The boy and several of his family members live at the house on 20th Street, neighbors say.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 780-1000, or text at 274637, using the key word “ITip.”
