Writing and recording his first batch of music when he was still in his teens, Omaha, Neb.'s Conor Oberst has developed into the one of the 21st century's pre-eminent songwriters. He delivers the kinds of poetic lines on life, love and religion that seem poised to break at any moment under his quaking vocals and folk-based instrumentation. While Oberst has ventured in various musical directions, performing under his own name as part of the Mystic Valley Band, or as part of the Jim James-M. Ward supergroup Monsters of Folk, his greatest success has been with longtime collaborators Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott performing under the moniker Bright Eyes. Having delivered such stunning records as “Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground” and “I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning,” Bright Eyes has recently released what is to be the last album as a group, “The People's Key.” Bright Eyes is scheduled to perform at the National on Sunday, March 6, at 7 p.m. $25-$28.
