Alt-country duo Brickwall Jackson — lead vocalist Melissa Boland and guitarist John Hudak — plays music reminiscent of bands such as Tom Petty and the Band Perry. But don’t expect upbeat pop country. The Richmond duo packs an emotional punch with songs such as “Little Baby,” about Hudak’s daughter enduring seven years of surgeries, and “First Time Again,” about the miscarriages his wife suffered. After heading to Nashville to record its debut album “Just Life,” Brickwall Jackson has a finished product and will celebrate with a performance at the Canal Club on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 8 p.m. $5-$10. thecanalclub.com.
