Book Worms

Just as earnest but usually a bit more studied, the words recited by students and instructors from your local university offer a genuine feel of the undercurrent of contemporary writing. The von Gribley series, popping up irregularly at Chop Suey Books, returns this week with two poets from VCU, Angela Lehman-Rios and Elizabeth Canfield. Lehman-Rios' humorous work should be surprising to anyone expecting stuffiness. Canfield says her stuff is involved with emotions, though the goal is "not to be as dictated by the story that produces that emotion but [ to reveal] the emotion itself."
