Big Fat Fruit

Beans aren't the only musical fruit. The Carytown Watermelon Festival is bursting with music makers, with more than 80 bands on eight stages. Last year, more than 100,000 people soaked in the sun and swallowed seeds on Cary Street. This year two gentlemen competing for a prominent Washington office might be seeking a slice of the action. As always, the music is free and the watermelon is sweet and cheap. The festival returns Sunday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 422-CARY.
