Second Place: Richmond Flying Squirrels
Third Place: Monument Avenue 10-K
Not even a bottle-throwing incident can dampen the popularity of Dominion Riverrock, the three-day sports and music festival from claiming the top spot among voters. It turns Brown's Island and the downtown riverfront into an extreme sports event complete with mud runs and acrobatic dogs as well as big-name bands such as Matisyahu and the Infamous Stringdusters. It's the time of year when the Richmond community gets to see what the outdoor enthusiasts already know. (If you missed it last weekend, sorry, you'll have to wait a year.) While the new home of the Flying Squirrels is a hot debate, the beloved minor league baseball team still brings fans to each game. And the ever-popular Monument Avenue 10-K has become a Richmond staple. More than 30,000 people take part every year.
