Sorry, television stations. Sports fans seem to be enjoying all the talk — and talking back — they can get from the radio dial. At the top of the poll is the energetic and friendly Greg Burton, host of “Hardly Workin’ with Greg Burton” on ESPN 950, weekdays from 3-6 p.m. “I’m glad that fat check I wrote to [Style Editor] Jason Roop went through,” Burton says. “Richmond is a great sports town — we do a lot of hand-wringing over certain issues, but we’re passionate, and that’s why they want to listen to sports radio. There has to be a dialogue.” Burton knows all too well that this is Redskins country, and his station is prepared to blitz this summer’s training camp. “We’re going to have wall-to-wall, 12-hour, live coverage every day,” he says. “Lots of Red Bull, lots of energy drinks. We know people want it.” So expect Burton’s show to expand a little during the daily coverage that will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. But don’t get it twisted, he notes: “We’re not owned by the Redskins but we are owned by Dan Schneider’s company Red Zebra.” Argue amongst yourselves about which is better. Also getting voter nods is Wes McElroy of Sports Radio 910, which bills itself as the home for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Virginia Tech Hokies and the NFL. McElroy goes head to head in Burton’s timeslot, from 3-6 p.m. weekdays. Rounding out third is the down-home charm of veteran “Big Al” Coleman, also on ESPN 950, weekday mornings from 8 to 10.
