Second Place: Bill Bevins and Shelly Perkins (Lite 98)

Third Place: Catfish and Lori (K95 Country)

Voters seem to appreciate the ear caffeine, embracing as favorite personalities the morning radio hosts who encourage them to climb out from under the covers — and hurry to the car to keep listening. And bonus points for picking all Richmond-based talent. Lite 98’s Bill and Shelly, with the “Wakeup Show,” have been a team for more than 10 years. And can it be that Catfish marks his 25th anniversary with K-95 this year? We hope Lori has a good present in mind. A toddler team by comparison, Melissa and Jack have been riffing off each other a little more than a year and a half now, with radio newcomer Jack (a Style Weekly columnist) joining local radio veteran Melissa in October 2011. In the midst of all the music from 6-9 a.m., they offer upbeat chat, a popular Second Date segment, Hollywood updates and local news (Style’s Jason Roop shares The Scoop on Thursday mornings) — not to mention poking fun at each other. They also serve as hosts for local events across town. We asked them separately back in February to share the thing they liked best about each other in the morning. “Watching him hide how much he secretly loves being in radio, even if he acts like a tough guy who doesn’t care,” Melissa says. “Otherwise, how else would he come in sober(ish) at 5:30 a.m. each weekday?” Jack writes of Melissa: “Her tireless work ethic. And patience with my ‘occasional’ hangovers.”
