Best Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt

Readers' Pick

First Place: SweetFrog Premium Frozen Yogurt

Second Place: Bev's Homemade Ice Cream

Third Place: Gelati Celesti

It isn't just the nonfat frozen yogurt. SweetFrog offers a plethora of flavors — peach mango tart, snickerdoodle, maple bacon doughnut — and toppings — lime sauce, fruity cereal, strawberry poppers. It seems like sweetFrog has become a group destination practically all the time. The Top 40 music burbles out onto the sidewalk, with people lounging in plastic deck chairs to enjoy the weather with their concoctions. There's a sweetFrog in Carytown, where you'll also find Bev's Homemade Ice Cream, practically a Richmond landmark and the ending point of many an evening in this neck of the woods. You'll find real ice cream, not nonfat fro-yo, so expect a denser texture and way more flavor. Bev's changes up the variety of flavors seasonally, but we all know dirty chocolate is never going away. Gelati Celesti has 85 flavors rotated throughout the year, and its dense gelato is the closest thing to what you'd get at any corner gelateria in Italy. And it bakes its own cones.
