Millie's Diner

2603 E. Main St.

Second Place: The Jefferson Hotel

Third Place (tie): District 5 and Lunch/Supper

It's unusual for a restaurant older than 20 years to be as successful as it was when it started, but Millie's Diner manages the feat handily. Back in the '80s, Church Hill — or technically, Church Hill-adjacent — was uncharted territory. Millie's is now surrounded by residential dwellings. But in those lonely days, with only Poe's Pub to keep it company, the restaurant opened to booming business in spite of the trek up the hill. Brunch still rocks each weekend, and its Devil's Mess, full of sausage, onions, green peppers, garlic, tomatoes, curry, white cheddar and avocado, is the stuff of morning dreams. The Jefferson's Sunday champagne brunch is the only place in town you can have sausages, grits, shrimp, mussels, oysters, and a chocolate sundae, all in one meal. District 5's Sunday Funday lures in customers with mimosa magnums and a choose-your-own Bloody Mary bar, while Lunch/Supper offers its breakfast menu every day until 3 p.m., so you can satisfy that craving for eggs and scrapple all day long.
