First Place: High Point Barbershop & Shave Parlor

112 N. Meadow St.

Second Place: Main Street Barber & Mercantile

Third Place: Refuge for Men

The rollicking and popular High Point Barbershop & Shave Parlor is so swamped at its Meadow Street location in the Fan that it can take three to four weeks to get an appointment, although cancellations might result in earlier spots. This fall, High Point will open another shop in Scott’s Addition that will make it easier to get a haircut. Why the, uh, buzz? “We do traditional American barbering,” co-owner and barber David Foster says. That includes full barbering services such as cuts, shaves and hot towels — something recently featured during their appearance on the online series, “American Barber.” The theme is replicated at another Fan outpost, the three-year-old, family-friendly Main Street Barber & Mercantile. And Refuge for Men, open seven days a week at Lombardy and West Main streets, is going on eight years of business and is distinctive for its barbering skills and community service.
