Ben Carroll at Ashland Coffee and Tea

Watching Will Ferrell sing “Afternoon Delight” in the movie “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” must be an oddly funny experience for singer-songwriter Ben Carroll, considering his father, Jon, was a member of the Starland Vocal Band when it originally released the hit back in 1976. Growing up under the influence of such harmony-infused folk and pop, Carroll has found his own musical identity by incorporating a soulful lilt to his James Taylor acoustics. On the road supporting his latest collection of songs, “Real Thing,” Carroll plays Ashland Coffee and Tea on Saturday, March 21, at 8 p.m. $8. 789-1702. — Mike Hilleary
