Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

It's nice to get the neighborhood together for a party, especially when the neighborhood is an entire city. And when that party includes belly dancers, flame twirlers and double-Dutch performers, it's time to throw on your Mr. Rogers sweater and prepare for a beautiful day. Make sure that sweater is dry-cleaned in time for Saturday, Aug. 11, Richmond's third annual Block Party, hosted by the Ezibu Muntu African Dance & Cultural Foundation and Tuesday Verses. The Block Party includes some Tuesday Verses favorites: host L. Boogie, house band Chicken Grease and poets Dyore, Nickey McMullen and Texas Pete. These artists will be sharing the stage -- er, street — with other local acts, such as the Ezibu Muntu African Dance Company and visiting poet Komplex. There will also be a street fair and activities for youngsters. The Block Party, noon-10 p.m., is free and located on East Main Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. 304-8657.
