Banana Banger

“Stomp” continues the long tradition of smashing bananas together.

With this whole percussion-with-weird-objects thing, one wonders if its noisy, post-industrial appeal will ever wear thin. Especially as fewer and fewer Americans even know the insides of a factory. Maybe shows like “Stomp” will get big in China, while here our stage shows involve such provocative commentary as staging foreplay between a PC and a Mac. Let's hope that day never comes. In the meantime “Stomp” is coming to Richmond with its thundering rhythms made out of such everyday materials as the requisite brooms and lids, sand, drumsticks and, strangely, bananas. Which begins to sound like a Gallagher routine, but whatever. It's still more pleasing to the ear than “Compulove,” coming hopefully never. “Stomp” hits the Landmark Theater on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30-$50. 6 N. Laurel St. Call 262-8100 or visit www.ticketmaster.com. — Brandon Reynolds
