Similar to its neighbors in the Caribbean, the Brazilian state of Bahia has a significant history, one that shows itself in African people adapting to the involuntary exodus of the slave trade. Today, a modern melting pot that embraces both African and South American customs and traditions, the country's artistic endeavors are just as diverse, with the work of the BalAc FolclA3rico da Bahia serving as a prime example. Blending an Afro-Brazilian repertory of folklore, martial arts, samba and carnival theatricality, this 38-member troupe of dancers, musicians and singers has become of its country's most prestigious artistic productions. The BalAc FolclA3rico da Bahia is scheduled to perform at Richmond CenterStage on Monday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. $25.
