Badfish, Good Times

A tribute act’s significance can transform when the band it formed to honor isn’t around to take cues from. In the case of Elvis Aaron Presley, his death birthed so many imitators that a word was coined to refer to multiplicity (“Elvi”) and rendered them almost indistinguishable. But for the Sublime homage band Badfish, the sudden dissolution of the funk/rock/ska band (because of lead singer Brad Nowell’s death) and its enduring popularity have created a vibrant niche market. The group routinely plays sold-out shows, packed with fans who never caught a glimpse of Sublime during its brief career. Sublime’s music legacy continues with Badfish at Toad’s Place Friday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. $15-$18. 648-TOAD.
