AWB at the Second Street Festival

An average white band may not find its audience at Richmond's Second Street Festival, the annual event that transforms Jackson Ward back into a thriving African-American mecca for two days. But this is the Average White Band, the Scottish funk outfit behind such '70s hits as "Pick Up the Pieces," "Cut the Cake" and "Person to Person." So street credibility is a non-issue. The band has survived numerous lineup changes (including the addition of its first black member in 1974) without losing its distinctive sound and identity. AWB performs on the Waverly R. Crawley Stage at 8 p.m. Saturday. The festival continues Sunday with gospel sounds from Darwin Hobbs at 5 p.m. Free. 788-6471
