Atlantic Chamber Ensemble at Gallery5

Saturday, April 7

Take off your scooter goggles and look at this bassoon, will you? Totally steam punk. That’s what composer David Bruce thought, and the members of Atlantic Chamber Ensemble, Richmond’s most ambitious post-classical band, agree. Their concert, “Reimagined,” features Bruce’s octet, “Steampunk,” and seven other pieces intended to explore alternate visions of the concerto, poetry, composers and music itself. At the group’s February concert, a pairing of Prokofiev and head-mounted-camera video of James River Park bike trails was evidence that imaginative combinations can work brilliantly. Now you can replace your goggles, because steam-punk attire is encouraged when the Atlantic Chamber Ensemble and friends perform at Gallery5 on Saturday, April 7, at 8 p.m. $7-10. 223-2112.
