MariA© Digby charmed cyberspace last year with her acoustic rendition of Rihanna's R&B smash, "Umbrella," made famous by a homemade video. That clip and others of the singer performing her versions of pop hits garnered more than 2.3 million views on YouTube. Then came The Wall Street Journal article. Turns out Digby isn't a struggling singer; she's an artist on Hollywood Records. The WSJ reports that the label devised her Internet marketing campaign, helping her choose which songs to cover and sending digital copies to iTunes and radio stations. So maybe MariA©'s not the girl you thought she was. But everyone deserves a second chance, right? Digby performs with Gavin DeGraw Friday, Aug. 1, at 9 p.m. at The National. Tickets are $20.
