I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with them judges' decision not to put Mr. King's “art” outside of the Manchester Courthouse (“Art on Trial,” Cover Story, July 22). By golly, we need to make sure that dang art is somthin' us “common folk” can understand. What we need is a Dale Earnhardt statcha, or a nice picture a dogs playin' cards, or a couple of dem plastic squirrels crawlin' up da side of da courthouse wall. Yeah, that's it. Sides, what the hell does art got to do with our histr'y? They should put a statcha or one of them colerd boys from back in the Williamsburg days in one of dem ... Whatcha call 'em? Stocks? Yessiree, dem judges 'n' lawyers, they know what they's doing. Art ain't about thinkin'. We don't wanna think. This here's America! David Bridgewater Richmond
Richmond should take the time to look a little deeper when borrowing from other cities. Claims made by proponents of new ballparks usually are overstated.
